Thursday, May 15, 2014-baseball




MELROSE BASEBALL:
The Dutchmen never trailed as they posted an 8-4 win over Morris this afternoon at Melrose.  Colton Meyer's three hit drove in two of the Dutchmen runs, and he score two of his own. Meyer also earned the win pitching the final 3.2 innings of the game and not allowing any runs.  Melrose had taken a 5-0 lead by the third inning.  The team had four hits that inning all of them singles. The team's only extra base hit in the game was the double by Meyer in the fourth inning. Steals by Anthony Welle (video above) helped create scoring situations
The team made the most of its scorig opportunity to score when ever it could. (video below) It manufactured runs using sacrifices and steals to get runners into scoring position for RBI hits by Austin Schoenberg, Meyer and Adam Austing.   
Schoenberg started on the mound and pitched the first 3.1 one innings striking out three batters. Lead off batter Justin Wolbeck either reached base or drove in a run in all for of his plate appearances.
