MELROSE DUTCHMEN BASKETBALL
HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS
The Melrose Dutchmen basketball team topped previously unbeaten St. Cloud Cathedral 94-66 to win the 2012 Crusader Christmas Classic tournament.

Scottie Stone (25, left photograph) and Isaac Sawyer (5 right photograph) were named to the all-tournament team. Stone scored 69 points in the tournament and Sawyer had 36 points.  In the championship game Seth Noll, Ryan Elfering, and Nathan Goebel all scored double figures.  Melrose outscored opponents 224-155.

MELROSE LADY DUTCHMEN BASKETBALL
The Melrose Lady Dutchmen fell 61-45 to Foley in the third place game at the Upsala Holiday Tournament.
Tayler Reller's 10 points led Melrose.  Gabi Sawyer (31 left photo) added nine more for Melrose.

Melrose defeated Pierz in the second round of the Cathedral Classic.
Melrose held Pierz to 18 first half points. Scottie Stone finished the game with 24 for Melrose. Isaac Sawyer added 12 and Mitch Niehaus had 10.

MELROSE DUTCHMEN BASKETBALL
Led by Scottie Stones 25 points and Isaac Sawyer's 19 points, the Dutchmen opened the St. Cloud Cathedral Classic with a 74-47 win over Mandan, N.D. They next face Pierz at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28. For more information see the Jan. 9 Issue of the Melrose Beacon.

M-SC FUSION SWIMMING
The Fusion finished second in the Brainerd Invitational.  Freestyle swimmer Felipe Barreto broke the Sauk Centre record in the 500FS he won that race and finished second in the 200FS.  For more information see the Jan. 9 issue of the Melrose Beacon.
MELROSE LADY DUTCHMEN BASKETBALL

MELROSE DUTCHMEN BASKETBALL
The Melrose Dutchmen fell 65-59 in overtime at Litchfield this evening.  Melrose led 51-50 with 13 second left. Litchfield cashed on one shot in a two-shot free throw opportunity to tie the game with four seconds left.
Scott Stone (19) and Isaac Sawyer (18) led the Melrose scoring.
In the overtime Litchfield shot better and effectively slowed the game once it had the lead.

MELROSE-SAUK CENTRE FUSION SWIMMING AND DIVING TEAM
The Fusion defeated Dassel-Cokato/Litchfield 112-73 at Melrose. Felipe Barreto (bottom) won the 100FS race for the Fusion. For more information see the Dec. 26 Issue of the Beacon.

SAUK CENTRE-MELROSE WRESTLING TEAM
The SC-M wrestling teamsplit wins in a triangular at Melrose.
It defeated MAHACA 41-33. Saul Ellering's win at 220 put SC-M ahead in the match. Dalton Reinke (video) scored a pin for SC-M.
SC-M fell 69-6 to Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City.

MELROSE DUTCHMEN BASKETBALL
Melrose had a balanced scoring attack led by Scottie Stone and Isaac Carter in its 96-74 win over New London-Spicer at Melrose.
Stone (photo to left) finished the game with 26 points. Sawyer had 23. Melrose is now 4-0 on the year. It travels to play a strong Litchfield team on Friday.

SAUK CENTRE-MELROSE WRESTLING
SC-M's Tommy Latka pinned BBE's Trevin Quintin in 29 seconds. That pin and a decision by Arturo Stefanoni were the only wins by Melrose in the 54-9 loss to B-B-E this evening.
SC-M hosts a triangular Thursday at Melrose.

The Melrose Dutchmen out-score Holdingford in the second half to win 60-46 at Melrose.
The score was 28-28 at half-time.

The Prairie Centre North Stars Hockey Team fell 4-2 to Litchfield-Dassel/Cokato at Litchfield.

The Melrose Rosettes finished sixth in the high kick contest Saturday.  Kendra Moening (back) and Kenzie Meyer are among the dancers who participated for Melrose.

MELROSE DUTCHMEN BASKETBALL
The Dutchmen posted a 95-54 win over Albany at Melrose.  Scott Stone (left) set the Melrose scoring record with 40 points in the game.  He score his final point with 6:07 in the second half and gave Melrose an 80-49 lead.  The previous mark of 39 was held by Stone and Mark Olberding, a 1974 gradute. Ryan Elfering finished with 11 and Mitch Reller had 10 for Melrose.

SAUK CENTRE MELROSE WRESTLING
The Sauk Centre-Melrose team took seventh at the Willmar Cardinal Classic.
Tommy Latzka (138) and Arturo Stefanoni (182) finished in third place.

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa topped Melrose 48-42 at Belgrade.
The game was unique in that the opposing coaches, Melrose's Chris Anderson and B-B-E's Kristina Anderson are husband and wife.
Emily Goerdt led Melrose with 13 points.

MELROSE LADY DUTCHMEN GYMNASTICS
Melrose posted a 141.725-122.4 win over Little Falls at Little Falls.
Jailyn Brinkman won the All-Around and finished first on the vault, bars and floor  She was runner-up on the beam. 
Melrose's next match is Tuesday, Dec. 11 at New London.

SAUK CENTRE MELROSE WRESTLING
The Sauk Centre-Melrose team fell 42-24 to BOLD Tuesday, in a triangular at Minnewaska. Posting wins for SC-M were Antonio Ortiz (106), Will Funk (126), Mitchell Wolbeck (138), Tom Latzka (145), Arturo Stefanoni (182).

Diver Morgan Kingston (left) earned sixth place in the Class A State diving competition at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. Sydney Rasmussen (right) won her heat of the 100 breaststroke (BT).

She was the only Lady Dutchmen to earn a medal. The Melrose Lady Dutchmen completed their preliminary round of swimming at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center, Minneapolis.
They had the following results:
200IM Rachael Kulzer, Sydney Rasmussen, Gabi Sawyer, Amanda Warzecha-10th 1:51.14.
50FS: Amanda Warzecha-14th 24.64
100FLY: Gabi Sawyer-17th 1:01.55
100FS: Amanda Warzecha-14th 54.85
200FSR: Katelyn Koetter, Kennedy Eichers, Sydney Rasmussen, Amanda Warzecha-11th 1:41.99.
100BT: Sydney Rasmussen-10th-1:07.88.
400FSR: Katelyn Koetter, Audrey Blommel, Kennedy Eichers, Rachael Kulzer-DQ
No Lady Dutchmen swimmer qualified for the finals round.  The 200IM and 200FSR team, as well as Warzecha (50FS 100FS) and Rasmussen (100BT) qualified for the consolation heat.
Diver Morgan Kingston will compete in the final of the diving competition.

Morgan Kingston was in fifth place following the semi-final round of diving. She had earned 237.2 points so far.

Scott Stone signed a letter of intent to play basketball at St. Cloud State Univesity next year.  Stone, a senior with the Dutchmen, is among the leading scorers in Melrose history.

Melrose did not play in a conference. A poll among all of the coaches of the teams that resulted in the following members receiving All-Independent Honors.

The Melrose Area Public School Dist. 740 board, accepted the resignation of Head Baseball  Coach Craig Meyer at meeting of the board this evening. No replacement had yet been named. Meyer had been approved as head coach at a meeting in late October.
