MELROSE DUTCHMEN BASEBALL: Melrose notched its first win of the year with a solid defensive game, and strong hitting attack. The Dutchmen had 15 hits in it win over Littlefork-Big Falls at Freeport.  Swinging the hot bat was Drake Meyer (photo left and video) who finished the day going five-for-five. Two of them were doubles and one was a home run. He drove in four and scored four runs. His brother Colton (photo right) finished two-for-four and also in the game.   Colton had also homered in the 8-6 loss to Upsala ear lie today.
Matthew Beste was the winning pitcher and was playing with a little bit of pressure. His brother Dan coaches the L-BF team. (In video below he talks of facing his brother)

No other Dutchmen had more than one hit, but eight others hit the ball well from Melrose.   In the contest with Upsala Melrose had three extra base hits but could not manage to get in the needed runs. The team did rally for three in the seventh inning, but came no closer to a win.
More information will appear in the May 7 issue of the Melrose Beacon.
