The  LADY DUTCHMEN SWIMMERS concluded an interesting week for the Melrose teams.  With some fantastic swims, time drops and solid efforts throughout the line up enabled the Lady Dutchmen to take first place at the Brainerd Swimming Invite on Saturday. The team won all three relays, had first in five individual events and generally had four finishers in the top 15 finishes at the meet.   The team also posted a 101-76 win at Montevideo this last week.

The VOLLEYBALL TEAM won twice over the week, both times winning 3-1 in the tough West Central Conference. The match scores do not reflect how close many of the sets were. The longest was a 30-28 loss at Montevideo on Thursday. The team continues to improve its passing and its finishing as it remains with the leaders in the West Central Conference.
The CROSS-COUNTRY  boys’ team finished fourth and the girls’ fifth on Tuesday at Paynesville. Three Dutchmen Preston Poepping, Nathan Douvier and Nicholas Berscheit, and one Lady Dutchmen, Laura Funk, earned medals for their finishes.

The TENNIS team found it tough going as it was defeated by MACCRAY and Osakis this week.
The FOOTBALL team, however pounded out a 40-7 win over Rockford on Friday. All team will be focusing on winning contests this week during homecoming.

Good saves by the St. John’s goalie prevented scores by Melrose Thursday afternoon.
Trivia Answer
The Longest non-kicking play without scoring in football would be 98 yards. No matter where a ball is placed inside the one yard line to the goal line, it is considered on the one yard line. If a team were to start with the ball on all but on its own goal and execute a play that would be stopped with the ball all but on its opponents’ goal line, it would measured from the one-yard line to the one-yard line, or 98 yards.
