Of the five major sports in the United States (Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Soccer), which one has the least amount of action during an average game.
Week in Review
Determined team tackling kept Pierz from having long-sustained runs against Melrose.
Preston Poepping, third place for boys.
Laura Funk, fourth place for girls.

There were plenty of good matches, but few wins for the Dutchmen and Lady Dutchmen teams this past week. Ons team that remained hot was the Lady Dutchmen swim team that defeated Sauk Centre 104-82 in a dual meet on Tuesday night.  There were some close races and fans saw two Sauk Centre records fall.  For the second time in two weeks there was a shut out on the Melrose football field, unfortunately it was the Dutchmen football team that was shut out falling 17-0 to third ranked Pierz on Friday. The game was a defensive battle with Pierz putting on 10 points late in the game. The Melrose volleyball team was involved in two 3-0 wins topping ACGC on Tuesday, but falling to Sauk Centre 3-0 on Thursday. There is now a three-way tie for first in the WCC volleyball standings. The cross-country team continued to show improvements as individuals and a team. The team had an individual third place finish by Preston Poepping, in the boys’ race at the 11-team Melrose Invitational on Tuesday. In the girls’ race Laura Funk claimed fourth place.  Saturday the Dutchmen and Lady Dutchmen competed in the Milaca Mega Meet.  The Dutchmen earned 20th out of the 23 Class AA teams and the Lady Dutchmen were 18th out of 25 girls teams. All totaled there were over 4000 runners with 102 boys and 97 girls schools participating. The Lady Dutchmen tennis team found it tough going falling 7-0 to Minnewaska on Tuesday and 6-1 to Benson/KMS on Thursday. The win came from Paige Danzl and Natalie Wilwerding who won the number two singles contest 6-4 7-6. Soccer had some highs and lows this week. The girls had it best offensive showing in a 6-3 loss to West Ottertail on Tuesday, and then fell 7-0 to Cathedral on Thursday. It was Cathedral day Thursday as it topped Melrose 6-0 in the boy’s contest. The boys’ team, which defeated Little Falls 2-1 on Tuesday, finished the week taking third at the Melrose Invitational. It lost 4-2 to champion Lincoln International, then rebounded to tie runner-up Central Minnesota Christian 1-1 in the final game. Pelican Rapids fell in two games at the four-team invite.  Over all the boys were defeated.
Hope Petersen of Melrose (top) and Kali Sayovitz
