The Melrose Dutchmen Basketball team opened the 2016 playoff
season with a 58-29 win over Royalton this evening. Melrose took control of the
game early and lead 23-2 at one point in the half. The team, led by Dillon
Haider had 12 three-point shots in the game. Haider had four of them and
finished with 12 points. Tyler Braegelmann, working his way inside, added 11
more. Thirteen of the 23 Dutchmen who played it the game scored. Melrose used
its height and quickness effectively to steal, trap and force Royalton into
making turnovers. The Dutchmen face Sauk Centre Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at
Collegeville. Sauk Centre won 73-42 over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle. In the other
semi-final game will have Holdingford and Albany. Holdingford defeated St. John’s
Prep 78-47, Albany defeated Osakis 62-27.
In the East-Sub-section it was
Pierz-75 Rush City-48, Braham-86 Milaca-73, Mora-69 Pine City-64 and
