Tuesday, May 20, 2014-Baseball


MELROSE DUTCHMEN BASEBALL
The Dutchmen needed only five innings to top ACGC 13-3 this afternoon at Melrose. The team started slow and spotted ACGC a 3-0 lead before it got untracked. Melrose did have 15 hits in the game, with 12 coming between the third and fifth inning. While Colton Meyer blasted a double among his three hits. He wasn't the only one hitting well. Justin Wolbeck, who came into the game in the third inning, was 2-for-2 and score three times. Austin Schoenberg twice drew bases loaded walks and also had an RBI single. Cole Van Beck contributed three hits, scored once and drove in two more. Number nine batter Erik Barten started rallies in the third and fourth innings by leading and reaching base. Melrose batted around both innings.  The game ended with Melrose slapping out five hits in fifth inning to score four needed net the game by the 10-run rule. Pinch hitter Ben Klaphake (pictured right) drove in the final run of the game.  
Tyler Braegelmann started and earned the win Colton Meyer finished the game in the fifth inning. The two combined to strike out six ACGC batters.
