MELROSE LADY DUTCHMEN TRACK

Lydia Butkowski (left photo) finished second in the girls' triple jump this afternoon and qualified for the State Track and Field meet.

Butkowski is the only member of the Melrose track and field to reach state this year. Zack Zink, running in the 400, finished in third place, but needed a first or second to be guaranteed a state berth.
Another highlight was the finish of the 4X800 boys relay which again set the school record in that event. The quartet finished in fifth place.
The top six finishers received medals. Medaling for Melrose were:
Jailyn Brinkman, sixth in the triple and long jump
Madison Brinkman, fifth in the triple jump.
Bringing points, but not earning a medal were:
Cally Roering, eighth in the 3100 hurdles.
Caleb Rothfork, seventh in the high jump. (Video below).
Other finishes were:
Lydia Butkowski, 10th in the long jump.
Kayla Herdering, ninth in the discus
Rodrigo Milla 12th in the 200.
Brent Blommel, 14th in the 800
Cally Roering, 15th in the 100 hurdles
DUTCHMEN GOLF
Melrose finished in seventh place at Staple Invite this afternoon. The team shot a 318. Jacob Dickhaus finished with an 86 to lead Melrose.

MELROSE DUTCHMEN BASEBALL:
Melrose fell 3-2 to number one seed Long Prairie-Grey Eagle in the first round of the Section 6A playoffs. The loss ends the Dutchmen's season.

MELROSE DUTCHMEN BASEBALL:
The Dutchmen concluded their regular season in another close game contest falling 3-2 to Albany this evening in St. Martin. The Huskies broke a 1-1 in the fifth inning scoring on a wild pitch and an error. Melrose's seventh-inning rallied was thwarted when Cole Van Beck was ruled out at the plate ending the game.  More information appears in the May 28 issue of the Beacon

MELROSE HIGH SCHOOL GOLF:
Playing some good rounds of golf Melrose turned in some solid scores today a the Melrose Invite at GreyStone in Sauk Centre.
Brooklyn Loxtercamp was the top scorer for the Lady Dutchmen. Isaac Lieser recorded the Dutchmen's best score.

Nine individuals and one relay team will represent Melrose Wednesday, May 28 at the Section 5A track meet.

Listed below are the top Melrose finishers in event in which Melrose did not qualify some one for Section competition.


Tuesday May 20, 2014-softball

MELROSE LADY DUTCHMEN SOFTBALL
The Lady Dutchmen's season ended with a 4-1 loss in the playoffs to Staples-Motely at Staples. Melrose fell behind 4-0 by the four inning as Megan Vetsch struck out 11 in the seven-inning game.  Melrose had six hits in the game for six different players. Nikki Zierden double and had an RBI. Kayla Austing scored the team's run in the fifth inning.  Morgan Notch did not walk anyone, but was charged with the loss.

MELROSE DUTCHMEN BASEBALL
The Dutchmen needed only five innings to top ACGC 13-3 this afternoon at Melrose. The team started slow and spotted ACGC a 3-0 lead before it got untracked. Melrose did have 15 hits in the game, with 12 coming between the third and fifth inning. While Colton Meyer blasted a double among his three hits. He wasn't the only one hitting well. Justin Wolbeck, who came into the game in the third inning, was 2-for-2 and score three times. Austin Schoenberg twice drew bases loaded walks and also had an RBI single. Cole Van Beck contributed three hits, scored once and drove in two more. Number nine batter Erik Barten started rallies in the third and fourth innings by leading and reaching base. Melrose batted around both innings.  The game ended with Melrose slapping out five hits in fifth inning to score four needed net the game by the 10-run rule. Pinch hitter Ben Klaphake (pictured right) drove in the final run of the game.  
Tyler Braegelmann started and earned the win Colton Meyer finished the game in the fifth inning. The two combined to strike out six ACGC batters.
