DUTCHMEN FOOTBALL
The Dutchmen football team fell 44-0 to Paynesville this evening.
The game was the first played on the rebuilt Melrose field.  Paynesville scored in every quarter of the game. Melrose did have some good moments as the line at time game protection to quarter back Tyler Braegelmann to pass or created holes for Zach Pierskalla.   Pierskalla (with ball in bottom photo) had over 100 yards rushing.

LADY DUTCHMEN VOLLEYBALL
The Lady Dutchmen posted a 3-0 over Minnewaska to remain unbeaten in the West Central Conference-North. Melrose is now 6-0 on the year.

LADY DUTCHMEN TENNIS

Melrose posted 5-2 over LacQui Parle Valley-Dawson Boyd at Melrose this evening. The doubles teams won all their matches.

LADY DUTCHMEN SOCCER
Melrose fell 2-1 to Minnewaska in club soccer this afternoon.
Melrose played well and led until late in the second period.
MELROSE CROSS COUNTRY
The Melrose Boys Cross Country team finished 13th out of 21 teams at the Little Crow Cross Country Invite this afternoon. Brian Thielen was the top Melrose finisher at 54th place.

LADY DUTCHMEN SWIMMING

Melrose not only took first in almost every event, but it swept the top two spots in a number of them when they defeated Apollo 105-65 this evening at Melrose.Stefanie Rasmussen (photo above) won the 500FS.  Diver Jewell Budde topped 200 points in the diving contest.  The Lady Dutchmen claimed the top two spots in the 200MR, 200 IM, 50FS (1-2 and 3), 100FS, 500FS (1-2-3) and 200FSR. It swam the 100BK as an exhibition but had the three fastest times in that event as well as the 100BT and the 400FSR. Watch scenes of the 200MR and the 50FS at http://youtu.be/tgljMobCL9I.

LADY DUTCHMEN TENNIS
The Melrose match with Benson was postponed because of rain.
LADY DUTCHMEN VOLLEYBALL
Melrose posted a 3-0 over Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City. Melrose has scores of 25-23, 25-22, 25-21 to stay unbeaten.
MELROSE SOCCER
The Melrose soccer club defeated Chain of Lakes 1-0 this afternoon at Melrose. The game was a co-ed game. Melrose scored in the first period, then held on the win. Scenes from the game can be found at http://youtu.be/8S6zjncMNf0

CROSS COUNTRY
The Dutchmen finished fourth in the meet at Long Prairie this afternoon. The Lady Dutchmen (photo above) ran an incomplete team.
Brian Thielen (left photo) was the top Melrose runner coming in at 19:05.92 to take 12th place.  Melrose earned 114 points in the race. The scores for the top spots were close with Royalton winning at 51 points, Ottertail Central was runner up with 54 points and LP-GE third at 55 points.

The girls team ran incomplete, but Ashley Herdering claimed 15th place at 18:25.25. Morris was the team champion.

DUTCHMEN FOOTBALL
Melrose moved 2-0 with a 33-26 win over Yellow Medicine East. 
Melrose, behind a 300  yard night from Zack Pierskalla took a 12-7 first quarter led. Pierskalla had runs of 64 and 38 yard in that quarter.
Melrose increased the lead to 25-7 seven in the second quarter as Pierskalla scored on runs of 35 and 64 yards. But the YME took the momentum and scored to cut the lead to 25-13. 
Melrose's defense stopped a scoring drive with an interception in the end zone as the half ended and led 27-13.  
YME kept coming back and took the lead at 2:58 in the third quarter at 26-25.  Melrose then regrouped and had a sustained drive to regain the lead. Pierskalla scored on four yard run for his fifth touchdown. Tyler Braegelmann scored on a PAT pass and Melrose led 33-26.
The game became a matter holding YME as the clock wound down. YME got to the Melrose 20 before their drive stalled and Melrose was able to run out the clock.

 Lady Dutchmen Tennis
Melrose moved to 9-2 overall win a 5-2 win over Yellow Medicine East. The young Lady Dutchmen faced a more experienced team in the match and it showed. Four the the contests went the third set. Melrose won at all but the third singles match (one of the three set matches) and the number one doubles match (another three set contest). Becky Klaphake (left photo) scored a two set win, but needed to go to 7-5 in the second set to do so. Haley Hoppe (right) took her match in three sets.  The number three doubles team of Harley Walker and Samantha Poepping (video) won in two sets to wrap up the night




Volleyball
The Lady Dutchmen won 3-1 over Montevideo this evening to remain unbeaten.  After taking the first two matches, Melrose fell in the third game, but came back strong for a 25-20 win in the fourth game.
Emily Goerdt's five point serving run game Melrose a 17-10 lead.  While Montevideo chipped into the lead Melrose did not surrender traded points to take the 25-22 win the fourth game.
Swimming
The Lady Dutchmen remained unbeaten in dual swim meets topping Willmar 112-78.
Melrose the top three in diving (Jewell Budde, Lauren Kingston and Samantha Dockendorf); 100FLY (Gabi Sawyer, Kara Stalboerger and Diana Nathe), and the 500FS (Stefanie Rasmussen, McKenna Von Wahlde and Allii Austing); first and second in the 100BK (Sawyer and Mikayla Von Wahlde);  claimed first in the 200FS (Rachael Kulzer, the 50FS (Savana Bitz),  and 400FS (Stalboeger, Nathen, Jordan Helmin and Hannah Miller)

TERRIFIC TUESDAY
The Melrose Lady Dutchmen team brought victories and the resurrected cross-country program had an impressive outing today.
The volleyball, swimming and tennis team all brought home victories.
Volleyball

The Lady Dutchmen defeated Sauk Centre 3-1 to remain unbeaten on the year. Game scores were 19-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-16.  The team needed to rally after losing the first game. It did, but again found itself trailing the third game. It regrouped from a 17-13 deficit, tied the scored, too that game and dominated the fourth to stay unbeaten.
Melrose Justine Revermann and Emily Goerdt both had double digit kills and Taryn Van Heel and Lydia Butkowski kept finding ways to keep the ball in the air as Melrose won played a well-balance match to stay unbeaten.
Swimming

The Lady Dutchmen topped Albany 106-72 in swimming this evening. Melrose swam the final three events as exhibition races.  The Lady Dutchmen took the top three spots in 200FS. 50FS, diving (video) and 100FS. It captured the top two spots in the 200MR and 200IM, and it won the 200FSR and 500FS. The team also had the top three times in the 100BK, and top two times in the 400FSR.
The Lady Dutchmen mixed up their line-up a bit but still managed good times and finishes in each event. Gabi Sawyer (left) swam with the first place medley relay team and also won the 100FS.  Taylor Poepping (right) led Melrose to a sweep of the 200FS.
Tennis
Melrose returned from Montevideo with a 6-1 win.  Melrose is now 8-2 on the year. Katie Schulzetenberg posted a win of 6-0 6-0 at number three singles. Sam Poepping and Harley Walked won a tough three set match with scores of 7-6 (7-2), 6-7 (4-7) and 6-2.
Cross Country

Melrose Boys Cross Country Team took fifth out of 15 at Wadena today. The girls field an incomplete team.  Brian Thielen (pictured right) led the Dutchmen taking 19th out of 71 runners in the race.
