Dutchmen Baseball
Melrose third baseman Brennan Hoppe waited to tag out a Wadena-Deer Creek’s Wyatt Hamann to complete a pick off play in Melrose Area’s 11-1 win Thursday in the Section 6AA playoffs.  The Dutchmen hit well scoring nine runs in the second inning to take a 10-0 lead. A two-run double by Will Stone, followed by a three-run home run by Cody Pundsack, highlighted that inning. Melrose Area batted around in the second with Logan Funk, Zac Van Beck, Brennan Hoppe, Dillon Haider and Jordan Klaphake all having two at bats that inning. Brady Birch pitched a complete game to earn the win. He walked none and gave up six hits.  His third inning home run gave Melrose an 11-1 lead. Melrose turned two  double plays in the game.
