MELROSE VOLLEYBALL

The Melrose Lady Dutchmen volleyball team topped LP-GE in three games to advance to the semi-final round of the 6AA playoffs. MELROSE CROSS COUNTRY

The Melrose Dutchmen and Lady Dutchmen had some of their best times of the year in the Section 6A meet at New London today.   No member of the squad qualified for the state meet. The top finishes were by Brian Thielen in the boys' race and Ashley Herdering in the girls' race.  Both finished at 40th. MELROSE DUTCHMEN FOOTBALL

 The Melrose Dutchmen (#2 7-2) defeated Litchfield (#7 1-8) 32-22 this evening at Melrose. The two teams combined to run off 113 plays in the game.  Melrose out gained Litchfield 386-166 in total offense. Big plays, such as Matthew Beste's 39-yard run (right) and Zack Pierskalla's (below) 40 yard run were key plays for Melrose. Eddie Estrada had an 85-yard kickoff return and Jared Pedersen threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Cody Rau for Litchfield. Video highlights can be seen at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjIHLmHOOnw. Melrose faces sixth seeded Annandale (2-7) Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Section 6AAA semi-finals. Annandale defeated third seeded Montevideo (6-3) 22-13.  Fifth seeded Morris Area, which defeated fourth seeded Redwood Valley 42-13, faces #1 seeded New London-Spicer at New London. MELROSE LADY DUTCHMEN VOLLEYBALL

Melrose played less than one hour as it downed BOLD in three games to win the overall crown of the West Central Conference.

After cruising to a 25-7 win int he first game, Melrose had rally for a 26-24 win in the second game and then posted a 25-8 win in the third game.

Melrose is now 24-5 on they year. The begin post-seaons play on Friday.

6AA Volleyball Brackets

The post-season is about to begin for the Dutchmen football team and Lady Dutchmen volleyball team. The Lady Dutchmen received the number one seed in upcoming 6AA playoffs. Placing them the same bracket as Pierz, Osakis, Staples-Motley, Sauk Centre, Holdingford, Little Falls and LPGE. The number two seed is Sauk Centre and fans figure that the championship of the 6AA North could well be between Melrose and Sauk Centre. Osakis is also solid team in the 6AA North.  In the south Rocori, of the Central Lakes Conference, is somewhat favored, but an improving Albany and Cathedral team, who play in the Granite Ridge Conference, cannot be over looked.

Melrose football begins post season play Tuesday, Oct. 21 hosting Litchfield. Few are overlooking that match up against Litchfield.

Litchfield plays in the tough Wright County Conference, as does Number one seed New London-Spicer. 

Also in the Section are Annandale, Montevideo, Morris and Redwood Valley. Melrose is guaranteed to be the home site for the first two rounds of the playoffs. The championship will be held in St. Cloud. 

If both the volleyball and football teams qualify for the Section championship they will both play on Nov. 1.

LADY DUTCHMEN VOLLEYBALL

Melrose won the Upsala Tournament going unbeaten in it five matches this afternoon.
The team won nine of the 10 games it played in the tournament. Only twice in the tournament did it give up 20 points in a game.
Melrose is currently 25-3 and 12-1 in the WCCN. It plays for the overall conference title against BOLD Monday night at BOLD.

DUTCHMEN FOOTBALL

Melrose finished it a regular season with a 29-15 win over Benson this evening in Melrose.

The win pretty much guaranteed Melrose a second seed in the upcoming Section 6AAA playoffs.

Three different running backs score touchdowns for Melrose which finishes the regular season at 6-2. 

LADY DUTCHMEN SWIMMING

The Lady Dutchmen swimming and diving team finished seventh in the 12-state state true team meet in Minneapolis this evening.  Melrose's best finish was a fourth by Gabi Sawyer in the 100 Butterfly.
