Dutchmen. The Dutchmen, 29-1, fell 74-67 to St. Cloud Cathedral Friday evening
in the 6AA championship. Melrose
won 29 consecutive games from the beginning of the season.

Dutchmen Basketball
The Melrose Dutchmen are
the 6AA West Sub-Section champions defeating Sauk Centre 70-55 Tuesday night.
Melrose will face East Sub-Section champion St. Cloud Cathedral Friday evening
at Hallenbeck Hall, St. Cloud. Cathedral defeated Pine City 53-49 to advance to
the championships. Melrose Area was led
by Dillion Haider (left) with 21 points, Brady Birch (right) with 14 points,

Basketball
Defense by Zac Van Beck and other Dutchmen helped the team
to post a 51-50 over Osakis in the 6AA West Sub-Section playoffs. The Dutchmen
will face Sauk Centre Tuesday night at 8 p.m. at Collegeville. Brady Birch
scored 17 points and Reegan Nelson 14 for Melrose, which did not have a

Hunter Rieland (25) drove against LPGE to score 10 points as the Dutchmen open the 2017 post-season with victory
Thursday. Melrose established a 10-point
lead early in the game and led 54-20 at half team. Leading the Melrose scoring
in the game were: Dillon Haider 19, Francisco Cervantes 11, Reegan Nelson 10 and Brady Birch 13.
In the first round of the
playoffs alls the top seeded team won and will play Saturday March, 11 at

M-SC Fusion Swimming
Kenny Warzecha earned fifth in the 100FLY and seventh in the
50FS. He holds Fusion records in both other those event and in the 100FS. He
also swam with the record setting 200MR and 400FSR teams.
Also swimming on the last day of the swim season were the
200MR team of Isaac Schreiner, Dylan Fleischhacker, Kenny Warzecha and Spencer
Van Beck, which finished ninth winning the consolation heat; Schreiner who
finished 12th in the 100BK; and the 400FSR team of Kenny Warzecha, Nathan
Douvier, Spencer Van Beck, Isaac Schreiner (11th).
SC-M Wrestling
Jordan Winter’s season, and the SC-M
season ended the second round of wrestlebacks when when fell 3-1. Winter was
2-2 at state.
Lady Dutchmen Basketball
Melrose,12-15, was outplayed and fell 63-32 to 26-1 Sauk Centre in the
6AA-West sub-section playoffs. In the other contest Albany defeated Osakis
66-56. Maci Blommel score eight
and Cassie Klaphake seven for Melrose.

Basketball
The Dutchmen finished the regular season unbeaten defeated
Osakis 68-50 tonight at Osakis. Dillon Haider scored 19 points and Brady Birch
18 points and Reegan Nelson 14 points. Melrose led by eight half time then took over in the second half.
SC-M Wrestling
Jordan Winter
Winter (132) opened his state meet with a 7-0 win over
Xavier Judge of Bloomington Kennedy, but fell 8-1 to Tyler Shackle of Scott
West. Winter scored his second win of the tournament posting a 5-1 win over
Kellen Schauer of Grand Rapids in the playbacks. He faces Jack Vaselaar of
Winona-Winona Cotter in the second round of wrestlebacks.
Antonio Ortiz
Antonio Ortiz (106)
wrestled just one match at state. He was pinned at 5:15 by Kole Krause
of Bloomington Kennedy in the first round. When Krause lost in the quarterfinals,
Ortiz’s season ended.
M-SC Fusion Swimming
Kenny Warzecha qualified for the
state championships in the 50FS and
the 100FLY after the preliminaries of the Class A swimming and diving meet. He
was seeded fourth in the 100FLY and seventh in the 50FS. Swimming in the consolation round heats will be Isaac Schreiner in the 100BK; the 200FSR
team of Isaac Schreiner, Dylan
Fleischhacker, Kenny Warzecha and Spencer Van Beck; and the 400FSR team
of Kenny Warzecha, Nathan Douvier,
Spencer Van Beck, Isaac Schreiner. Also competing on Friday, but not
swimming on Saturday were: Isaac
Schreiner, 100FS; Spencer Van Beck,
500FS; and Dylan Fleischhacker,
100BT. New Fusion records were set in by the 200MR team (1:40.08),
Warzecha in the 50FS (21.7) and 100FLY (52.14), Schreiner in the 100FS (49.35),
and 100BK (54.62); Dylan Fleischhacker in the 100BT (1:03.2). Warzecha’s time in his leg of the 400FSR is (47.86) is now Fusion
record for a 100FS.
