SCM Wrestling
Antonio Ortiz (106 24-7) and Nathan Winter (132 ) will have wrestle well to medal at the state Class AA meet this weekend. Neither the 24-7 Ortiz or the 33-5 Winter are currently ranked among the top 10 in the Guillotine rankings. 
Ortiz is the oldest member of his weight division at state.  He will begin his state meet facing unranked Kole Krause of Bloomington Kennedy. A ninth grader Krause has  a 26-12 record. Ranked wrestlers in the division include” #1 Matt Peterson-Byron (12, 35-0), #2-Jaxson Rohman-Fairmont/Martin County West (8, 36-1), #3-Nathan Garceau-Foley (11 21-1), #4-Nic Cantu-Albert Lea (10, 30-4), #5 Kyle Boeke, Princeton (8, 31-4), #8 Nick Johnson-Tri-City United (10, 31-5).   Unranked wrestlers in the weight class are: Hunter Baker-Luverne (8 28-10), Cobly Dunkel-New Prague (9 23-11), Bryce Golden-Bemidji (10 27-13), Cameron Wigand-South St. Paul (8 27-12), Cael Berg-Simely (8 28-11), Edwin Pesantez-Columbia Heights (11, 21-9), and Francis Fuenffinger-Hibbing (10 25-16). A victory over Krause would place him against either Garceau or Wigand.  A first round loss would mean Ortiz would have to wait to see how Krause does in the second round. A second round win by Krause mean Ortiz is in the playbacks. A second round loss means his season is over.
Winter has state experience going for him. He is a three-time state entry, the first of SCM to do so. The winner be facing unranked Xavier Judge of Bloomington Kennedy (11 29-11). The winner will face tier #7 ranked Kellen Schauer-Grand Rapids (10 39-2), or unranked Tyler Shackle-Scott West (10, 30-12).  Other ranked wrestlers in the bracket are: #1-Tucker Sjomelling-Delano (12 38-1), #3-Reed DeFrang-Plaineview-Elgen-Millville (12, 34-1), #3-Ben Nelson-Perham (12 17-3), #6-Sam Tibbits-Litchfield (12 36-7),  #9-Sean Hock-New Ulm (10 37-4), and #10-Nick Fite-Fridley (11 33-6)
Unranked wrestlers in the bracket are: Tryik Sann-Henry Sibley (12, 32-10), Payton Anderson-Fairmont-Martin County West (9 36-7), Jack Vaselaar-Winona/Winona Cotter (11 27-12), Austin Soonek-North Branch (9, 22-10), Antonio Cortez-South St. Paul (11 31-11), Tate Card-Hutchinson (10 25-16).
MSC-Swimming
The swimming preliminaries of the Class A meet will be Friday. Those finishing in the top eight qualify for the state championship. Those finishing 9 to 16 qualify for the consolation heat.  Going into Friday, the following are where Fusion swimmers are ranked by their times.
200MR: 1:41.12-13th.
50FS: Kenny Warzecha 21.97-Sixth
100FLY: Warzecha 53.30-Sixth
100FS: Isaac Schreiner 50.01-27th
500FS: Spencer Van Beck 5:03.71-17th.
100BK: Isaac Scheiner 56.30-15th
100BT: Dylan Fleischhacker-17th.

Lady Dutchmen Gymanstics


The Melrose Lady Dutchmen won three of the six vaulting medals at the state tournament Saturday as Kayla Austing (left) finished third, Camryn Brinkman (third from right) took fourth and Greta Klaphake sixth. Mady Brinkman (right photograph, left side) tied with Jada Olsen of Perham from first place on the bars. Austing was also fourth and the beam, fifth on the floor and fourth all-around. MSC Fusion
MSC Fusion had number of people qualify for state next week Swimming in the state meet will be:
Isaac Schreiner: 200MR, 100FS, 100BK, and 400FSR.

Dylan Fleischhacker: 200MR, 100BT.

Kenny Warzecha: 200MR, 50FS, 100FLY, 400FSR.

Spencer Van Beck: 200MR, 500FS. 400FSR.
Nathan Douvier: 400FSR
Warzecha, voted Section swimmer of the year, won the 100FLY and 50FS
 SCM Wrestling
Antonio Ortz, 106 and Jordan Winter, 132,  won their division and qualified for the state tournament this coming weekend in St. Paul.  Winter is making his third trip to state.

Others placing well were: Luke Glasener, 152, fifth; Bryce Stalboerger, 170, fifth; Roberto Raya, 195, fourth; Sam Sjorgren, 285, fourth.

Lady Dutchmen Gymanstics

The Lady Dutchmen had a right to flex their muscles after taking second in the State Class A team tournament, recording the highest Melrose team score in a state meet and setting the state team beam record. SC-M Wrestling
Jordan Winter and Antonio Ortiz are in the finals of the the Section 8AA individual wrestling tournament at Fergus Falls.  Still alive in the wrestlebacks are Roberto Raya, Luke Glasener, Lazaro Garcia, Carter Braun and Sam Sjogren.
Lady Dutchmen Basketball
Sauk Centre downed Melrose 73-43 in the final regular season game for the Lady Dutchmen. Makiya Luetmer led Melrose with 15 points, all coming from three pointers.
Fusion  Swimming
The Fusion begin Section swimming competition today.

Lady Dutchmen Basketball
Maci Blommel launched a shot to the basket in the Lady Dutchmen’s game with Holdingford Thursday night.  The Lady Dutchmen fell 56-53. Melrose rallied from significant deficits the game and even led for a time in the second  half, but could not prevent a Holdingford  comeback. Makiya Luetmer finished with 28 points in  the game.

A 17-point night by  Dillon Haider spear-head a 69-52  Melrose win at Benson. Brady  Birch had 11 points.

Lady Dutchmen Gymanstics
The Lady Dutchmen gymnastics team is heading back to state after winning the Section 6A meet Saturday in Willmar. Melrose scored 149.175 and as a team finished first in all routines.
Individual finishes were as follows. An asterisk indicates the gymnast will compete in the state individual meet on Saturday.

Prairie Centre Hockey
Prairie Centre defeated Breckenridge/Wahpeton 3-1 Saturday night. Daniel Thompson, Petr Erhart and Hunter Fletcher scored for the North Stars. They next play Tuesday against. St. Cloud Cathedra.l.
SCM Wrestling
 SCM defeated Fosston Bagley 54-14, but fell  63-9 to Perham in the Section 8AA team wrestling tournament.
Dutchmen Basketball
The Dutchmen moved to 23-0 with a 70-56 win over Montevideo Friday. Brady Birch had 26 points and Dillon Haider had 18.

Lady Dutchmen Basketball
Cassie Klaphake was determined to take the ball to the basket in the Lady Dutchmen’s game with MACA Thursday night. Klaphake finished with 11 points, but  the Lady Dutchmen fell 51-47 to MACA. Melrose trailed by 10 at one point in the second half. Video can be seen at https://youtu.be/yqQJ7EpBClw

Praire Centre Hockey
Prairie Centre North Stars (9-15-1) will host a Section 6A playoff game with Breckenridge-Wahpeton (8-11-0) Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Sauk Centre.

Dutchmen Basketball

Despite being surrounded by MACA defenders, Justin Middendorf found his way to the basket to score, drawing fouls and picking up rebounds.  The Dutchmen had to battle back from a seven point deficit in the second half to post their 22nd win of the year.
Lady Dutchmen Basketball
Albany topped the Lady Dutchmen 60-34 Tuesday night. Cassie Klaphake’ 16 points led the Lady Dutchmen. She had four three pointers.
On Monday Osakis’ height gave them an advantage in the 81-34 win over Melrose.  Maci Blommel scored 13 to lead the Melrose.
Prairie Centre North Stars Hockey
Prairie Centre downed Redwood Valley 5-2 on Monday. Goals by Noah Fletcher, Petr Erhart and Hunter Fletcher put the North Stars up 3-1. In the third period Hunter Fletcher and Brady Miller added goals.  Jesse Gould had 26 saves in the game.

Lady Dutchmen Gymnastics
The Melrose Lady Dutchmen defended their conference title and dominated the competition Saturday in the WCC match at Melrose. The team set a school record at 150.835. The team claimed the following positions:
First: Kayla Austing-Vault, Bars, Floor, All-Around (She set a school and tied a conference record with a 9.9 on the vault); Mady Brinkman-Beam.
Second: Kayla Austing-Beam; Mady Brinkman-Bars, Floor; All-Around. Camryn Brinkman-Vault.
Third: Trisha Thom-vault, bars; Mackinze Wolbeck-beam, floor; Camryn Brinkman-floor, All-Around
Fourth: Mady Brinkman-vault; Lauren Kingston-bars; Greta Klaphake-beam.
Fifth: Camryn Brinkman, bars;
Sixth: Camryn Brinkman, beam; Greta Klaphake, floor.
Seventh: Greta Klaphake-vault.
All Conference Selections: Kayla Austing, Mady Brinkman, Camryn Brinkman, Greta Klaphake. Honorable mention: Trisha Thom, Mackinze Wolbeck.
