Dutchmen Basketball 
The Melrose Dutchmen downed Cathedral 79-52 to win the Crusader Classic Friday night. Brady Birch had 19 for the Dutchmen. Melrose had just two three-point shots, but it hit free throws dropping in 23 of 25 from the free throw line. Dillon Haider, who had 20 points, was 14-of-14 from the free throw line.  Reegan Nelson had 11 points.  The game went back and forth until midway through the second half when Melrose’s depth showed as Cathedral wore down. Fusion Swimming
The Melrose-Sauk Centre Fusion swim team finished second at the Brainerd Invitational this afternoon.  The team had strong swims in all events. The top best finishes were:
Firsts
100 Breaststroke-Dylan Fleischhacker.
Seconds
200 Medley Relay-Spencer Van Beck, Dylan Fleischhacker, Kenny Warzecha, Isaac Schreiner.
200 Freestyle-Isaac Schreiner.
100 Backstroke-Isaac Schreiner.
400 Freestyle Relay-Spencer Van Beck, Paul Pundsack, Isaac Schreiner and Kenny Warzecha.
Thirds
200 Individual Medley-Kenny Warzecha.
North Stars Hockey
The North Stars topped Fairmont 5-2 this afternoon. Petr Erhart scored twice.

Lady Dutchmen Basketball
The Lady Dutchmen basketball team was all smiles after it defeated Concordia Academy of Roseville for the Upsala Christmas Tournament this afternoon. The Lady Dutchmen won 65-64 with Whitney Austing (front center) hitting a free throw with 37 second left to break a 64-64 tie. She scored 18 in the game. Maci Blommel (back right) also had 18 points. Cassie Klaphake (front left) had 11 points. In the semi-final win over McGregor on Tuesday Makiya Luetmer (second row, right) led Melrose with 12 points. Dutchmen Basketball
The Dutchmen remained unbeaten and advanced to the St. Cloud Cathedral Championship with an 80-52win over Litchfield. Dillon Haider led all scorers with 34 points. Hunter Rieland contributed 18 points.  The next game is tomorrow night at St. Cloud Cathedral.
North Stars Hockey
The Prairie Centre North Stars downed Benson/Morris 8-1 in the  Morris/Benson tournament this afternoon. They face Fairmont tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. Seth Deters had four goals for Prairie Center, three in the second period.

Lady Dutchmen Basketball

The Lady Dutchmen posted a 33-18 win over McGregor and will face Concordia Academy in the championship of the Upsala tournament tomorrow at 3 p.m. 
Dutchmen Basketball
The Melrose Dutchmen opened the Crusader Holiday tournament with a 73-62 win over Mandan.  The team built to an 18-point lead early in the second half.  Foul trouble  by Melrose and some hot shooting by Mandan enabled Mandan to cut the lead to four point. Melrose regrouped and took an 11-point win.
The Dutchmen were led by Dillon Haider, 25, Brady Birch, 14 and Franciso Cervantes, 12 points.

Melrose faces Litchfield tomorrow at 5:30 p.m.
Fusion Swimming
 The swim meet scheduled at Brainerd has been changed to Dec. 29.
North Stars Hockey
 The Prairie Centre North Stars Hockey teambegin Tournament play at Benson on Wednesday.

Melrose saw two team three teams take wins and two other fall Thursday evening the last athletic contests before the Christmas brake
Lady Dutchmen Gymnastics

Camryn Brinkman was one of the Lady Dutchmen scoring well on beam as the Lady Dutchmen gymnastics team defeated Willmar 144.925-139.5  It was on of their better scores of the year.  Taking first places were were Mady Brinkman, bars, beam and all-around; and Kayla Austing, vault and floor.
Dutchmen Basketball
The Dutchmen remained unbeaten with an impressive 66-31 win over Albany Thursday night Dillon Haider had 25 points and Reegan Nelson added 14 more.
Prairie Centre North Stars
The North Stars earned their first win of the year defeating Morris 5-1.  Noah Fletcher scored twice for Prairie Centre.
Lady  Dutchmen Basketball
Maci Blommel found her way to the basket to score 10 points as The Lady Dutchmen rallied from a double-digit deficit to come within one point with less than 10 seconds left.  Upsala hit free throws to win 49-44. Whitney Austing, who scored 16 second half points led Melrose with 18 points,
Sauk Centre-Melrose Wrestling


Sam Sjogren’s pin at 38 seconds of the 285 matched ended the contest but the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa won 46-16 Thursday in Melrose. Larzaro Garcia, Jordan Winter and Bryce Stalboerger also had wins.

Dutchmen Basketball
Brady Birch (35) and other Dutchmen were flying high and putting the ball into the basket as Melrose stayed unbeaten with a 72-51 win over Holdingford Tuesday.  Four Dutchmen, Dillon Haider, 21, Brady Birch 12, Hunter Rieland-10 and Reegan Nelson-10 reached double figures and 10 Dutchmen scored in the game.  More can be found in the Dec. 28 issue of the Beacon. Prairie Centre North Star
Prairie Centre fell 3-2 to Wadena/Deer Creek Tuesday Night. The winning goal was scored in the third period.

SCM Wrestling

Jordan Winter earned fifth place in the 132 division and Lazaro Garcia third place in the 106 division of the 40-team Big Bear Tournament at Cass Lake Friday and Saturday. SC-M finished 23rd as a team. More information is in the Dec. 21 issue of the Melrose Beacon and Dec. 22 issue of the Sauk Centre Herald.

Lady Dutchmen Basketball
Whitney Austing might not have gotten all her shots off, but her drives to the basket resulted in field goals and free throws as the Lady Dutchmen defeated ACGC 68-56 Thursday night.  Also reaching double figures were Whitney Austing, 17, and Maci Blommel, 11.
