Lady Dutchmen Basketball

Makiya Luetmer let fly for a field goal attempt in Melrose’s 64-23 loss to BBE tonight in Melrose. The Lady Dutchmen never got untracked after BBE jumped to a 14-4 lead.  Luetmer finished with two points in the game. Ashley Rademacher came off the bench to score seven for the Lady Dutchmen. Lady Dutchmen Swimming

Mikayla Von Wahlde watched as Taylor Poepping dove into the pool following McKenna Von Wahlde’s lap in the 200FSR. The Lady Dutchmen set a school record in that event as well as the 400FSR. Mikayla Von Wahlde earned seventh in the backstroke, setting a school record. Stef Rasmussen was eighth in the 500FS. The 400FSR team also set a school record.

Other state finishes by the Lady Dutchmen were:

200 Medley Relay: 13-Diana Nathe, Gracie Drossel, Britt Seanger, Savana Bitz.

200FS: 14-Rasmussen.

500FS: 8-Rasmussen

Diving: 20-Madison Brinkman 192.9

200FSR: 10-McKenna Von Wahlde, Taylor Poepping, Mikayla Von Wahlde, Bitz

100BK: 7-Mikayla Von Wahlde, 12-Nathe.

400FSR: 10-Rasmussen, Poepping, Mikayla Von Wahlde, Bitz

Lady Dutchmen Swimming

The Lady Dutchmen had two swimmers qualify for the championship round of the 2016 Minnesota State High School League swimming and competition.  The preliminaries were held today. Those finishing the top eight qualify for the championship head tomorrow.

Competing in the medal round will be Stef Rasmussen, 500 Freestyle (FS) and Mikayla Von Wahlde, 100 Backstroke (BK)

Those finishing ninth to 16th are in the consolation heat tomorrow. Lady Dutchmen finishes were as follows:

200 medley relay (MR) 13-Diana Nathe, Gracie Drossel, Britt Seanger and Mikayla Von Wahlde 1:53.78

200 freestyle (FS): 14-Stef Rasmussen 1:59.21.

50FS: 22-Savana Bitz 25.07.

Diving: 20-Mady Brinkman 192.9

500FS: 8-Rasmussen 5:13.86.

200FSR: 13-McKenna Von Wahlde, Taylor Poepping, Rasmussen, Bitz 1:41.42.

100BK: Mikayla Von Wahlde 59.33, 13-Nathe 1:00.68.

400FSR: 9-Rasmussen, Poepping, Mikayla Von Wahlde, Bitz 3:38.65.

Lady Dutchmen Swimming

  Stef Rasmussen won the 500FS in the Section 6A swimming meet and was named the Section swimmer of the year.  Rasmussen, who also qualified in the 200FS is one of nine Lady Dutchmen that qualified for the state meet. Also qualifying were:

200 medley relay team Diana Nathe, Gracie Drossel, Britt Seanger and Mikayla Von Wahlde.

200 freestyle relay (FSR) team McKenna Von Wahlde, Taylor Poepping, Stef Rasmussen, and Savana Bitz; 400FSR team Rasmussen, Poepping, Mikayla Von Wahlde and Bitz.

Lady Dutchmen Swimming

The Melrose Lady Dutchmen will have representatives in all swimming events Saturday at the Section 6A Swimming and diving competition.  The swimmers qualified for those events following the preliminaries Thursday at Alexandria.  Saturday’s finals competition begins at 3 p.m. in Alexandria. Diving preliminaries will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Mikayla Von Wahlde set a new school record in the 100 Backstroke. Lady Dutchmen Volleyball

Makena Schmiesing (11) benefitted from the digs by Taryn Van Heel (1) and sets by Cassie Klaphake has she hammered down points for the Lady Dutchmen Thursday. Despite their efforts Melrose Area fell in three games to Sauk Centre in the Section 6AA-North championship. Lady Dutchmen Volleyball

Abby Hinnenkamp was just one of the Lady Dutchmen who gave the extra effort as Melrose pulled of another upset  defeating second seeded Pierz in five games this evening at Pierz. All the sets were close and closely contested. Pierz won the first set 29-27, and Melrose the second 25-18.  The third set was again a Pierz victory 25-19. Melrose rallied to take the third set 25-18 and forced a fifth game. The Lady Dutchmen needed to rally for that win trailing 9-4, before coming back to win 16-14.
