BRINKMAN EARNS STATE CROWN
Hailey Brinkman's Championship Bars Routine at state




Hailey Brinkman rebounded from a less the spectacular vault routine, and claimed the top honors on bars, floor and beam as she won the all-around crown
 Also earning medals for Melrose were:

Jailyn Brinkman, 6th AA 2nd-Bars,
Abby Hinnenkamp, 6th Beam.

SAUK CENTRE-MELROSE WRESTLING
Roosevelt Austin (right) earned second place in the 195 division and will represent Sauk Centre-Melrose in the State Class A wrestling tournament. No other wrestler qualified. More information will appear in the Feb. 29 issue of the Beacon.







MELROSE DUTCHMEN BASKETBALL
The Dutchmen won a offensive shootout 114-100 over Lakeview Christian Academy. Scottie Stone scored  39 points for Melrose. Andrew Broman scored 71 for Lakview. More information will appear in the Feb. 29 issue of the Beacon.

MELROSE LADY DUTCHMEN GYMNASTS
STATE CHAMPIONS
The Melrose Lady Dutchmen gymnastics team are the Minnesota State High School League Class A State Champions.
Melrose scored a 147.5, over two full points higher that runner-up New Prague.  The team never had less than a 36.775 on any routine. It trailed in the team score after the first two rotations, but came on strong with stellar performaces on the beam and bars to win the meet.

MELROSE LADY DUTCHMEN BASKETBALL
Melrose closed it regular season with a 55-35 win over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle. Annie Herkenhoff led the team with 16 points. Emily Goerdt finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds. More information will appear in the Feb. 29 issue of the Beacon.

SAUK CENTRE-MELROSE WRESTLING
Roosevelt Austin (195) qualified for the semi-final round of the 6AA wrestling tournament.
Wrestling in the wrestlebacks are: Kolton Kuhlmann (103), Will Funk (120), Tom Latzka (132), Derek Karasch (145), and Arturo Stefanoni (220).
Eliminated were: Mitch Wolbeck (126), Cory Messer (138) and Dalton Reinke (152).
SCM had no entries at 113, 160, 170, 182, 285.

MELROSE DUTCHMEN BASKETBALL
Scottie Stone (right) scored his 1000th career point in Melrose's 73-49 win over Paynesville. Stone finished with 31 points. Ryan Elfering had 10 points and Isaac Sawyer had 12 points.

MELROSE LADY DUTCHMEN BASKETBALL
The Lady Dutchmen basketball team will be begin its post-season play at home this year.
Seeded third in the sub-section Melrose (15-8) will play host to Osakis (15-9) Thursday, March 1 at Melrose at 7 p.m. Melrose defeated Osakis (15-9) 49-40 earlier this year.

MELROSE LADY DUTCHMEN GIRLS' BASKETBALL
The second half belonged to the Lady Dutchmen downed Brandon-Evansville 70-48 at Melrose. Jenna Orth not only had 24 points in the game, she also had six assists. Annie Herkenhoff dropped in 15 points and Gabi Sawyer finished with 13 points.
The top scorer in the game was the Chargers' Heather Strese who had 30 points. She finished 12-of-12 from the free throw line.
MELROSE DUTCHMEN BASKETBALL
The Dutchmen got back on track with a 72-51 win over New London-Spicer at New London. Scottie Stone led Melrose with 30 points. Isaac Sawyer followed with 15 and Seth Noll finished with 13 points.

The Melrose Lady Dutchmen gymnastics team is going to state.
The team scored a147.525 to win the Section 6A championship at Melrose.

The Prairie Centre North Stars Hockey team fell 4-1 to Morris/Benson in the Section 6A hockey playoffs.

MELROSE LADY DUTCHMEN BASKETBALL
The Lady Dutchmen upset New London-Spicer at New London 41-32 to tied for second in the West Central Conference North standings.
Jenna Orth lead Melrose with 15 points and Emily Goerdt had nine rebounds. More information will appear in the Feb. 22 issue of the Melrose Beacon.
MELROSE DUTCHMEN BOYS BASKETBALL
The Dutchmen fell 81-75 to Albany in overtime. It was the first conference loss of the year for Melrose. Scottie Stone had 36 points to lead Melrose. More information will appear in the Feb. 22 issue of the Melrose Beacon.

MELROSE DUTCHMEN BOYS BASKETBALL
The Melrose Dutchmen downed Minnewaska 80-64 in a match a Melrose. Prior to the game  a moment of silence was held in memory of Craig Wiechmann, a senior with the class who had died on Saturday.
Junior Isaac Sawyer (5 in the photograph), worked his way inside to score 25 points for Melrose. Junior Scott Stone was again a presence scoring 23 points.  Inside senior Austin Van Beck scored six points each half to finish with 12 and junior Mitch Reller came off the bench to score 10 point for the Dutchmen.
New Game: Melrose has added Lakeview Christian Academy to its schedule. It will play Saturday, Feb. 15 at 1:30 p.m. at Melrose.

MELROSE LADY DUTCHMEN BASKETBALL
The Lady Dutchmen posted a 62-36 win over Minnewaska at Glenwood. The Lady Dutchmen have three more regular season games left. They are on the road Friday, Feb. 17 at New London and finish the season with road games Feb. 21 hosting Brandon Evansville and Friday, Feb. 24 hosting LPGE.

SAUK CENTRE-MELROSE WRESTLING
The Sauk Centre-Melrose wrestling team fell 43-21 to Princeton in the opening round of the Secton 6AA wrestling tournament. The individual tournament begins Friday, Feb. 24 at Annandale.

PRAIRIE CENTRE NORTHSTAR HOCKEY
The North Stars topped Northern Lakes 6-2 at Long Prairie to close their regular season at 14-10-1.
Cody Steward and Cody Bartkowicz each scored two goals. Nate Mettenberg and Tyler Schultz also scored for Prairie Centre.
Praire Center begins post season play Saturday, Feb. 18 hosting Morris-Benson at Sauk Centre.

MELROSE LADY DUTCHMEN GYMNASTS
The Melrose Lady Dutchmen gymnastics team won the team title at West Central Conference meet at New London.
Melrose outscored runner-up Paynesville by over 10 points.  Hailey, Jailyn and Mady Brinkman, Lydia Butkowski, Abby Hinnekamp all qualified for all-conference honors.  More information appears in the Feb. 15 issue of the Beacon.

Friday, Feb. 10

MELROSE LADY DUTCHMEN BASKETBALL
The Lady Dutchmen continued a winning streak defeating Morris 57-47 in a road game. Jenna Orth scored 27 points for Melrose. More information in the Feb. 15 issue of the Melrose Beacon.


SAUK CENTRE-MELROSE WRESTLING
Roosevelt Austin (195) won SC-M's only championship at the Albany Purple Pride Invitational.  Will Funk (120) and Cory Messer (138) earned third place.

SAUK CENTRE-MELROSE WRESTLING
SC-M will open its 2012 post-season competition Tuesday, Feb. 14 facing Princeton at Foley.
Ninth seeded SC-M (3-11) will face eighth-seeded Princeton (5-13) in the first match at 6 p.m.. The winner faces traditional wrestling power (and number one seeded) Foley (21-1) at about 7:30 p.m.
The winner of the second contest advanced to Litchfield on Feb. 17 to determine the Section 6AA team champion.

Melrose Triangular
SC-M lost both matches of its triangular this evening.  The team had pins by Tommy Latzka (132), Derek Karasch (145) (pictured at left), and Arturo Stefanoni (220) in the 52-18 loss to Eden Valley-Watkins. Cory Messer (138), Kolten Kuhlmann (106) won their matches in the 57-12 lost to Dassel-Cokato.

MELROSE DUTCHMEN BASKETBALL
Melrose had three players with at least 20 points and four in double figures in its 92-68 win over Benson at Melrose. Scottie Stone led Melrose with 23 points while Isaac Sawyer and Ryan Elfering both had 20.  Austin Van Beck added another 12 for Melrose in the win. The Fusion finished second in the Great Western Regional at Morris.
The scores of the day were:Montevideo- 633; Melrose-Sauk Centre 607; Morris Area 105.
Keenan  Pearson set the meet 100FLY record at 55.78. Ethan Ross, Brent Blommel, Aaron Stalboerger and  Pearson won the 200FSR

MELROSE LADY DUTCHMEN GYMNASTS
The Melrose closed out is regular season by again raising the all-time team score. The Team earned a 149.625 in a win over Alexandria. Melrose competes in the West Central Conference Meet on Saturday and Feb. 18 it hosts the Section 6A meet.
Individually Melrose has first on the floor, bars and all-around by Hailey Brinkman, beam by  Lydia Butkowski and vault by Jailyn Brinkman.

MELROSE DUTCHMEN BOYS BASKETBALL 
Ledy by Austin Van Beck, Melrose came back from a 12-point deficit, but feel 76-74 to Cathedral at St. John's Van Beck scored 16 of his 18 points inthe second half. Melrose also had Scottie Stone, 17, Ryan Elfering, 12, Isaac Sawyer, 12 and Seth Noll, 10 reach double figures.

MELROSE ROSETTES DANCE LINE









The Melrose Rosette jazz-funk dance team (left) finished 12 in the Section 4A meet.   The Melrose Rosettes high kick team finished 11th in their Section 4A competiton.



PRAIRIE CENTRE NORTH STAR HOCKEY
Nate Mettenberg and Cody Steward both scored scored two goals Prairie Centre's 6-3 win over Becker/Big Lake. Derek Holm and Cody Bartkowicz also scored.  Justin Brever had 26 saves.

MELROSE LADY DUTCHMEN BASKETBALL
Melrose defeated Albany 55-43 to end a loosing streak and even their WCC-N record at 4-4.
The Lady Dutchmen had dropped three straight prior to the win.
Leading Melrose's offense was Jenna Orth with 14 points. Emily Goerdt added another 13 points. Melrose's defense held Albany to 14 first half points.

Thursday, Feb. 2

MELROSE LADY DUTCHMEN GYMNASTICS
For only the second time this year Melrose did not better a mark from their previous meet.  The Lady Dutchmen scored a 145.7 to with their dual match at Sartell.
Melrose finished first in all routines with Jailyn Brinkman, winning the vault (9.45), bars (9.325), and all-around 37.35; Lydia Butkowski winning the beam 9.275; and Hailey Brinkman winning the floor (9.67)
