Lady Dutchmen Swimming
The Melrose Lady Dutchmen are the 2016 West Central Conference champions. The team had a number individuals take all-conference and honorable mention honors Saturday, at St. Cloud Apollo’s pool (Holdingford hosted the event). Makayla Von Wahlde (right) set the conference record for the 100BK at the meet. It is the 11th consecutive year the swim team has won the WCC Crown. Melrose Cross Country

Nathan Budde of the Dutchmen qualified for state with his eight place finish in the Section 6A Cross Country meet a New London.

Makena Schmiesing’s (11) hits and play by Lexi Friedrichs (4) and Cassie Klaphake combined as the Lady Dutchmen posted a 3-2 upset win over Holdingford in the Section 6AA playoffs Thursday evening. Melrose next plays  Pierz Tuesday at Pierz.

Melrose Cross Country


The Melrose Dutchmen clinched the West Central Conference title with their runs This afternoon at Melrose. The Dutchmen also  placed two runners, Nathan Budde and Preston Poepping (with medals, on the all conference team. Others on the team are John Meyer, Brock Chellgren, Brent Reller and Nick Berscheit. The Lady Dutchmen also had two all conference members  Ashley Herdering and Laura Funk, at they finished in third place in the team race.

 Melrose's Mikayla Von Wahlde, Stef Rasmussen and Taylor Poepping shouted to their teammate Savana Bitz to keep up her tempo in the final race of the night. The encouragement worked as the quartet set Melrose pool record in the 400FSR. The Lady Dutchmen defeated Albany in the meet.

Melrose closed out its regular season with a 3-0 win this evening at Benson. The  team posted scores of 25-15, 25-9 and 25-13. Good passes led to some strong finishes by a number of the Lady Dutchmen.

Lady Dutchmen Tennis
 Madison Worms (right) and Becky Klaphake finished in fourth place in the Section 5A doubles competition in Sartell. They fell in a three-set match in the semi-final round and a two-set match in the third place game. As they are seniors it was the their final match.

Lady Dutchmen Swimming
Camryn Brinkman earned 25th in the 48 member diving competition at the Minnesota Class A True Team swimming and diving meet Saturday.  Her finish helped Melrose to take seventh at the contest.  The team has several good swims, particularly in freestyle events.

Dutchmen Football
Cody Pundsack (20) found it was tough going as the ran for 128 yards and a touchdown in the 49-14 loss to Eden Valley-Watkins at Melrose.  The Dutchmen did move the ball, but EVW scored oftener. It had a 21-0 lead at the first quarter and 42-7 lead at half time. Zach Van Beck scored the other touchdown for Melrose.
The Melrose Dutchmen and Lady Dutchmen soccer seasons ended on Thursday. The Dutchmen fell to St. Cloud Cathedral and the Lady Dutchmen to St. Cloud Apollo.
The Lady Dutchmen tennis team season ended on Tuesday, but the doubles team of Madison Worms and Becky Klaphake qualified for the section semi-finals. They next  play on Tuesday.
The Lady Dutchmen swimmers topped Brainerd at Melrose on Thursday and the Lady Dutchmen volleyball team defeated ACGC.

Lady Dutchmen Swimming
The 2o0 Freestyle relay team set the pool record last night at Melrose as the Lady Dutchmen won defeated Montevideo 103-66.  Melrose took the three top spots in then 200FS , 50FS, diving and the 500FS. It also had the three fastest times in the 100BT.
Lady Dutchmen Volleyball
The Lady Dutchmen won 3-0 over Montevideo Tuesday evening with scores of 25-19, 25-22 and 25-14. Depending on how the team is seeded, it may be the final home match for the team.
Dutchmen Soccer
The Dutchmen won the play-in game of the Section playoffs defeating Minnewaska 4-1. The  tea next plays tomorrow against St. Cloud Cathedral in St. Cloud.
Lady Dutchmen Tennis
Melrose’s tennis team fell 6-1 to Foley Tuesday in the section playoffs. That ended the team season for Melrose. Individual competition begins tomorrow.
Melrose Cross County
Melrose took fourth in the boys run and fifth in the girls run Tuesday in Albany to the Dutchmen had two top 10 finishes. The Lady Dutchmen placed four in the top 30.

Lady Dutchmen Swimming
The Lady Dutchmen swim team earned runners-up honor in the Section 6A true team meet on Saturday. Melrose will compete in the Class A true team meet. Video of the 200FSR can be seen at https://youtu.be/pyCnaA2g_EY
Lady Dutchmen Volleyball
The Lady Dutchmen volleyball team finished 2-2 at the Sauk Centre Tournament  Saturday.
Melrose defeated Walker-Hackensack-Akeley and Hawley, but fell to Roseau and Sauk Centre.
The team won two extra points games and stayed with opponents in all games.
