Fusion Swimming
The Melrose Sauk-Centre Fusion swimming and diving team won the Section 5A championship today at Detriot Lakes. The team is sending seven representatives in eight events, five individual events and three relays, to the state meet.  Individual section champions are: Ben Heller, 200FS and 500FS, Ken Warzecha 100FLY, Isaac Schreiner, 100BK.  In addition the team won the 200MR and 400FSR relays.  For a report of the meet read the March 5 issue of the Beacon.
Dutchmen Basketball
The Melrose Dutchmen topped LPGE 60-39 in the  semi-finals of the 6AA-North playoffs. Melrose plays Sauk Centre Tuesday, March 3 for the sub-section championship. Read about the game in the March 5 issue of the Beacon. Video of the game can be seen at http://youtu.be/hAW0-X3dslk

Sauk Centre-Melrose Wrestling
Jordan Winter (25-13), 113, fell 4-1 in the first round of the Class AA State wrestling tournament this afternoon.  He was defeated by Sean Howk of New Ulm.
Winter's appearence in state ended after one match as Howk was defeated in the quarterfinals.

Dutchmen Basketball
The Melrose Dutchmen opened their post-season with an 84-82 win over Pillager this evening. Five players, Isaac Herkenhoff, Cesar Cervantes, Drake Meyer, Tyler Braegelmann and Blake Gerads scored in double figures.  Video clips of the game can be seen at http://youtu.be/9SBxhLviwaQ

Lady Dutchmen Basketball
The Lady Dutchmen Basketball team won its final regular season game this evening at Morris.
Melrose rallied late in the game to post a 51-49 win.  Emily Goerdt, 21 points, and Gabi Sawyer, 18 points, paced the Lady Dutchmen.
Melrose begins post season play next week Thursday.

Gymansts bring back medals
All four Melrose Lady Dutchmen gymnasts Lydia Butkowski, Camryn Brinkman, Kayla Austing and Mady Brinkman earned medals at the State Class A individual meet this afternoon in Minneapolis.  Mady Brinkman earned a championship medal on the beam. She also earned medals on the bars, and all-around routines. Lydia Butkowski earned medals on the bars, floor and all-around. Kayla Austing medaled on the beam and Camryn Brinkman on the vault.  SCM has state entry
Jordan Winter won the 113 championship and will represent Sauk Centre-Melrose in the State Class AA wrestling meet. Winter, a tenth grader, at 25-11 is unranked he faces unranked Sean Howk (33-6) of New Ulm in the first round.  There are eight state ranked wrestlers in his weight division. 1-Tucker Sjomeling (37-1), 2-Cole Jones (32-2) Grand Rapids, 3-Keaten Schorr (35-6) Kasson-Mantorville, 4-Jake Gliva (23-2) Simley, 5-Jackson Stauffacher (31-5) Scott West, 7-Quinn Young (34-3) Annandale/Maple Lake, 8-Thomas Hischer (26-6) Mora. The eight is Hser Moo Pwae (28-11) Worthington, who was ranked second in the 106 weight class prior to section competition.
State competition will be held Friday and Saturday in St. Paul

Gymnasts take second
The Melrose Lady Dutchmen had the best score of the yearat 149.2  and finished second in the Class A gymnasts meet this afternoon. The team seat a state and school record on the vault with a 38.45
Individual competition is tomarrrow.
  
 
Sauk Centre- Melrose Wrestlers
The SCM team has two people qualify for the Section 6AA tournament championships in Perham.  Reaching the final round are: 113-Jordan Winter and 145-Will Funk. Still alive in the wrestlebacks and with a chance for third place, and possibly true second, are: 106-Antonio Ortiz, 120-Bradley Hellermann, 126-Abel Vazquez, 138-Luke Glasener, 152-Junior Perez, 170-Bryce Stalboerger, 195-Clayton Mensen and 285-Jimmy Thomas.

Dutchmen win WCC championship


The Melrose Dutchmen defeated ACGC 87-72 to win the WCC championship tonight at Melrose. Melrose hit from everywhere on the court with Dillon Haider scoring 23 points from the outside. Tyler Braegelmann and Blake Gerads went inside to score 18 and 17 points. The Dutchmen begin playoffs next week Thursday facing Pillager in the Section 6AA-North playoffs. Melrose is the number two seed.

Melrose Dutchmen Basketball

Melrose fell 69-60 to Albany this evening in Melrose. It was senior night and the six seniors on the team were saluted. Drake Meyer and Blake Gerads both scored 14 for the Dutchmen. The game was the final regular season game for the Dutchmen. Melrose competes in the WCC N-S Championship Thursday facing Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City. It will begin post season play Thursday, Feb. 26 in the sub-section tournament.

Lady Dutchmen Basketball
Melrose topped Perham 60-41 tonight at Melrose. Gabi Sawyer, who scored 23 in the game, crossed the 1000 point mark of her career. Jordan Thompson ended the game dropping in a three-point shot. Melrose faces rival Sauk Centre Friday night at Melrose.

Lady Dutchmen Gymnastics

The Sauk Centre Melrose Wrestling team defeated Fergus Falls 54-16, but fell to Thief River Falls 40-29 in the 7AA wrestling tournment
Prairie Centre North Stars Hockey
The North Stars fell 6-2 to Little Falls in the 6A playoffs
Melrose Dutchmen Basketball
The Dutchmen defeated Osakis 59-29 in a regular season, non-conference game.
