The Melrose Lady Dutchmen have an experienced group of players returning to the team this year and are looking forward to a good season. Kaitlin Harren (left photograph) is one of  eight seniors and a talented corps of younger players the team is current preparing of its 2014 season.

Monday, March 24, 2014-Boys basketball



Seth Noll named WCC-N MVP
Seth Noll, senior point guard of the Melrose Dutchmen, was recently named the MVP of the West Central Conference-North for 2013-14.
The 5-9 guard was the player most team focused on stopping - an very few did. With the speed to to the basket and the accuracy to regularily hit three-point shots, he more the once led Melrose to scoring and to the WCC-North crown.
All totalled Melrose had 19 people named as either conference or honorable mention to conference teams from the winter sports season.

MELROSE DUTCHMEN TRACK
The Melrose Dutchmen and Lady Dutchmen track teams have started practice. the team will have an indoor meet Thursday, April 27 at St. Thomas.
The team has good numbers out and has some competitors returning who represented Melrose at the Section meet last year.

In the video below Cally Roering and Caihley Heinen recently worked on a starting drill.

LADY DUTCHMEN BASKETBALL

Melrose fell 65-32 to Staples-Motley in the Section 6AA Semi-Finals. Staples-Motley took control of the game from the start. It's offense dropped in 10 three pointers and the defense prevent Melrose from getting many good shots. Melrose finished they year with a 13-13 record.

Friday, March, 7, 2014-Boys Basketball



MELROSE DUTCHMEN BASKETBALL

Melrose (19-0) fell 70-59 to New London-Spicer (19-10) at St. Cloud State in the Section 6AA championship. NLS advances to the State Class AA playoffs.  Melrose trailed by over 20 points at time.  Three point shooting by Seth Noll  (video above) and a stronger defensive effort  (Cesar Cervantes steal  below) helped Melrose cut the deficit to five points before the game ended.

Thursday, March 6, 2014-Goerdt's 1000

LADY DUTCHMEN BASKETBALL
GOERDT HIT 1000 POINT MARK
Emily Goerdt scored her 1000th point as Melrose defeated Holdingford this evening in the Section 6AA-North Sub-Section quarter finals.  Goerdt a junior, had asked before the game that the game not be stopped to mark the occasion.
She was awarded a ball after the game was over. On  the video she talks how she knew about the milestone and why she had asked for no ceremony.

point mark.  Ertl, a senior, passed the mark last year
at a game in Melrose. Goerdt, a junior, passed it this
year in Holdingford.
Emily Goerdt has been a regular on the Melrose team
since for a number of years. The junior forward leads
Melrose in scoring this year


Emily Goerdt fell while dribbling the ball during the game. 
She prevented the ball from getting away from her
Picked it up and was able to 
Toss it to a teammate without traveling.

MELROSE LADY DUTCHMEN BASKETBALL:



The Lady Dutchmen (13-12) defeated Holdingford (20-6) 43-41 in overtime time to open the playoffs. 
While Emily Goerdt led Melrose in scoring, it was a field goal by Emily Tschida (right photo and video above) that provided the game winning points.
Emily Goerdt (left photo) scored her 1000th point in the game.
Melrose next takes place Staples-Motely at 4:30 p.m. at St. John's  University.
