BOYS BASKETBALL
The Melrose Dutchmen fell 69-57 to Litchfield in the consolation championship of the Crusader Classic in St. Cloud.  Scott Stone, who was named to the all-tournament team, finished with 26 points, Austin Van Beck had 10 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Shelby Uphoff looked to the basket
as she prepared for two-point shot.
The Lady Dutchmen rebounded from a 58-54 loss on Wednesday, to defeat Maple Lake 69-55 on Thursday. Emily Goerdt and Jenna Orth led the team with 19 points each. Annie Herkenhoff, hitting from the floor and free throw line, had 11 points and Tayler Reller added 10 points.
The win gave Melrose third place in the red division of the Upsala Tournament.
In the loss to Staples-Motley on Wednesday evening Orth scored 24 points. She was six-of-six in freethrows Melrose hit 9-of-12 freethrows. More information appears in the Jan. 4 issue of the Melrose Beacon.

BOYS BASKETBALL
The Dutchmen defeated Saul Rapids 77-39 in the first round of the consolation bracket in the Crusader Christmas Classic. Melrose was led by 32 points from Scott Stone. Jordan Welle added 10 points and Austin Van Beck 11 points.
The Dutchmen were sent to the consolation round after a 79-76 loss to Braham in the opening round. Isaac Sawyer score 32 points and Stone finished with 22 points. Van Beck finished with 15 points. The Dutchmen's chance to tie the game ended with a missed three-pointer as time ran out.
SWIMMING
The Melrose-Sauk Centre (M-SC) Fusion swim team finished in third place in the five team Brainerd Invite Saturday.  The top finishes were Keenan Pearson's third in the 100 butterfly and Phil Budde's third in diving.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Melrose defeated Holdingford 82-42 at Holdingford.
Three players scored in double figures with Scottie Stone having 25 points. Austin Van Beck added 18 points and Ryan Elfering finished with 11 points.

Paynesville
GIRLS BASKETBALL


The Lady Dutchmen and Paynesville Bulldog exchanged scoring runs and leads with Paynesville taking the game 57-54.
Melrose cut a 10-point deficit to one with about five minutes left.  The six straight free throw attempts in the final minutes to seal the win. Jenna Orth led Melrose with 20 points. Tayler Reller had nine points, all on three-point shots.
The match-up was the first conference game for the Lady Dutchmen. Melrose is now 5-3 on the year. More details appear in the Dec. 28 issue of the Melrose Beacon.






WRESTLING

Will Funk earns reveral
Sauk Centre-Melrose fell in all three matches of a quadrangular at Melrose.
Match scores were:

Mora-61 SC-M-7
Will Funk and Roosevelt Austin were both 2-1 on the evening. Austin fell for the first time this year. Antonio Barrera recorded a pin against Princeton.

BOYS BASKETBALL
The Dutchmen defeated Sauk Rapids-Rice 73-41 at Melrose.
Every member of the Dutchmen team scored. Scot Stone led Melrose with 15 points. Isaac Sawyer added 13 points and Dylan Schmiesing had 10 points.
The next game is Thursday, Dec. 22 at Holdingford.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Lady Dutchmen downed Holdingford 42-30. Melrose was led by Annie Herkenhoff, 16 points and Jenna Orth, 13 points.
The girls' next game is Thursday when it hosts Paynesville.



SWIMMING
Nathan Welberg in the 100BT.
The Melrose/Sauk Centre swimming and diving team fell to Willmar 101-85. Keenan Pearson won the 100FLY, John Schwieters won the 100 backstroke. Reed Duncan led Nathan Welberg and Noah Glasener to a 1-2-3 sweep of the 100BT. The team's next meet is Tuesday, Dec. 27 at the Brainerd Invite.














HOCKEY
Praire Centre posted a 6-2 over Redwood Valley at Redwood Falls. Sean Colton had three goals for the North Stars.
Next up is the Dec. 27-29 tournament in St. Cloud.

WRESTLING
Sauk Centre/Melrose fell 45-27 to Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa at Belgrade.
The team's next outing will be Thursday, Dec. 22 in a quadrangular at Melrose.

Saturday, Dec. 17

GYMNASTICS
The Lady Dutchmen finished first in the Brainerd Invitational. The team scored a 143.25 to take the crown. Melrose did not have a first place finish in any routine.
The next meet is Jan. 7 at Watertown.

BOYS BASKETBALL
The Dutchmen won the Kimball tournament defeating host team Kimball 73-32.  The Boys' next game is Tuesday night hosting Sauk Rapids-Rice.

GIRL BASKETBALL
Melrose played a balanced game and posted 49-40 win over Osakis at Melrose.
Jenna Orth (16) and Annie Herkenhoff (15) led the Lady Dutchmen scoring. Melrose was 15-of-21 from the free throw line with Orth going 7-of-8 and Gabi Sawyer hitting 5-of-6.
Others scoring were: Sawyer-8, Tayler Reller and Shelby Uphoff-2, Emily Goerdt-6.

WRESTLING
SC/M went 1-2 in the SC/M quadrangular.

The Lady Dutchmen posted a 57-50 win over BBE at Melrose.
Jenna Orth, 16 points, and Annie Herkenhoff, 13 points, led the Lady Dutchmen in the win.

BOYS BASKETBALL
The Dutchmen controlled the game from outset and posted an 80-37 win over Spectrum in the first round of the Kimball Tournament. Scottie Stone had 31 points and Isaac Sawyer finished with 19 points.
SWIMMING
The Fusion was edged 117-69 at Alexandria. Keenan Pearson won the 100 butterfly and John Schwieters won the 100 backstroke.

The Melrose Dutchmen breezed to an 80-51 win over Foley at Melrose.
The Dutchmen never trailed in the game and led by 30 for most of the second half.  Melrose lead 53-21 at half time.
Scott Stone had the hot hand for Melrose scoring 37 points for the Dutchmen. Austin Van Beck added 10 points underneath.

Melrose scored a 142.45 in a victory at Benson.  Hailey Brinkman competed only on bars and claimed first in that event.
Lydia Butkowski was first on vault and beam and second in the all-around.

The Melrose/Sauk Centre Fusion were edged 98-88 at Park Rapids. M/SC claimed first in the 100 Fly (Keenan Pearson).

Prairie Centre Area defeated Wadena-Deer Creek 9-1.
Scoring for PCA were: Sean Colton-2, Nate Mettenberg-2, Cody Bartkowicz, Tyler Schmitz, Cody Steward, and Presong Pung. Justin Brever had 13 saves.

DANCE TEAM
The Melrose Rosettes Dance Team competed at the Fergus Falls Invitiational. The High Kick team finished third and the Jazz-Funk team finished fourth.








GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Lady Dutchmen fell 61-53 to Kenyon-Wanamingo. Melrose trailed by 15 at half time.  Tayler Reller (14) and Jenna Orth (11) led the scoing.

Arturo Stefannio had three pins in the Cardinal Classic

WRESTLING
Sauk Centre/Melrose wrestlers finished fifth in the nine-team Cardinal Classic at Willmar.
Roosevelt Austin won the 192 championship with three pins.
SC/M also had two thirds, three fourths and a fifth place finisher.  It entered 11 wrestlers in the tournament.

Melrose (0-1) fell 75-64 to Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa (4-0) at Belgrade. BBE competed in the state Class A championship last season.

 the two that tied the game for Melrose.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Lady Dutchmen tied the score 54-54 with 22 second left, then went on to defeat Pierz 64-57 in overtime at Melrose.  The team is now 2-0 on the year. Jenna Orth (21) and emily goerdt (11) led the Melrose scoring.

The Melrose Gymnasts scored a 1141.1 winning their first duel meet of the year over Little Falls. Melrose's Hailey Brinkman won the vault, floor, beam and all-around title. Jailyn Brinkman won the bars routine.

The Sauk Centre/Melrose wrestling team fell 79-0 to New London-Spicer.  SC/M forfeited six of the 14 weight units.

The Lady Dutchmen score 140.2 and claimed first place in the Becker Tournament.  
Team, not individual awards were reward at the conclusion of the event.  Melrose finished first on the bars (34.05) and beam (35.3) and second on the vault (35.55) and floor (35.3).  
The junior varsity team claimed second place
